Raising a glass

The residents at Mill House in Kinver and members of the Kinver community celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday on Saturday 11th June 2016 and decided to use the day to celebrate the life of one of it’s residents too. Barry Hall sadly passed away in November 2015 after losing his fight with cancer, and his partner June and the rest of the residents at Mill House agreed it would be a lovely idea to dedicate a bench in Barry’s memory. The bench was purchased from donations received and funds raised on the day via admission fees and a raffle (£155).

Barry always loved a party and was very patriotic so it was a fitting tribute to him to celebrate both the Queen’s birthday and his life which was just what he would have wanted.

The residents have also planted a rose bush next to the bench and the gardening club will maintain this in Barry’s memory. The bench has been placed so that June can see it from her lounge window and this is a fond reminder for her of the good times they shared, as Barry used to sit and look at the garden, even when he was ill. The dedication on the bench reads: In Loving memory of Barry Frank Hall 4/1/1939–14/11/2015. Rest in Peace.

There was a real sense of community with the residents getting together to agree who would do what and when, with many of them and their families baking cakes, making donations of raffle prizes and helping out on the day.

Around 40 people attended the event and a good time was had by all!
