Introduction:

Oak House is a Retirement Living Scheme made up of 60 properties. There are 36 apartments in Oak House (11 x 1 bedroom flats and 25 x Studio flats). The scheme also has 24 bungalows in surrounding roads, these are located on Oak Avenue, Hawthorne Avenue, Gorsey Lane and Wharwell Lane.

Oak House is staffed for 35 hours per week by Retirement Living Officers. There are also red pull cords in each property and around the communal areas which are monitored by a call centre. These are for emergency use or to report repairs. If pulled by accident, please inform the call handler on the other end that this is the case – they understand that accidents happen.

There are several communal areas in Oak House in which residents can sit together including the lounge, the small breakout area outside of the lounge and the upstairs seating area next to the lift. Residents also have the use of the kitchen in the lounge and a laundry room. There are two guest rooms on site should residents want friends or relatives to stay over. There is a small single room and a twin room.

There are CCTV cameras on site for security, footage can be viewed in the room over the laundry. Residents are also offered security via the intercom and fob system on the front and back doors. Visitors must call through to the resident using the intercoms, residents are then free to choose whether or not to let somebody in, calls can also be made to the RLO on site.

There is a library, doctors surgery, church, post office, Co-op and other food and shopping outlets within walking distance.

Scheme Facilities

A communal lounge for resident’s use is on the ground floor located to the right of the ground floor entrance. Located on the top floor are two guest rooms and a visitor’s bathroom with shower for use with these rooms. A laundry room containing two commercial washing machines and two tumble driers are provided for tenants use. The scheme has a lift within the building and a private carpark to the back of the building.
