Grant support for great day out

Residents of retirement living communities in and around Shrewsbury enjoyed a fun day out together, thanks to a grant from the Wynn Foundation.

Around 40 tenants took a trip to Coed y Dinas in Welshpool, for some Christmas shopping and lunch at the legendary Charlies Country Store.

A generous grant paid for a coach, so that everyone could enjoy the trip.

Retirement living officer Vivienne Hurd explained that the trip was the idea of the residents in one Shrewsbury scheme, who said that they missed the social activities which they had enjoyed before the pandemic:

“At one of our regular monthly meetings, I asked the tenants if there was anything they would like to do and they told me that they would really enjoy a trip out, together,” said Vivienne.

The customers received an early Christmas present, with a grant of £400 from the Wynn Foundation, which supports groups and individuals in Shropshire, to improve their quality of life. The grant made it possible for the trip to include residents of other town and rural retirement living communities, with a coach making the special day accessible for everyone.

Helen Wynn of the Wynn Foundation (pictured left) met Vivienne (R), along with some of the jubilant residents, when she personally delivered the donation.
