MP visits our retirement living community in Kinver

South Staffordshire MP Sir Gavin Williamson visited our retirement living community in Kinver and learned more about how Housing Plus Group is providing high quality and affordable accommodation for older people.

At The Burgesses, Sir Gavin met our Executive director of housing and care Les Clarke and Debbie Brownlie, our Operational manager for retirement living. They toured the purpose-built retirement apartments constructed on the site of eight bungalows to replace outdated accommodation previously provided in those bungalows and in a nearby scheme of bedsits and small flats.

The Burgesses offers affordable, easily-managed and safe housing to people over the age of 55 who wish to live independently, with the reassurance of access to care and support provided by Housing Plus Group member Care Plus. The building was developed at a cost of £3.4m and boasts a range of facilities including a rooftop terrace, electric vehicle charging points, and secure parking. Photovoltaic panels support power required in communal areas, helping to reduce service charges for its residents.

The Burgesses was completed in 2021 and was shortlisted for the Best Old People’s Development award in the national Inside Housing Development Awards of 2022.

Sir Gavin said: “It was great to visit The Burgesses and learn more about the fantastic accommodation that it provides. It is incredibly important that we provide older generations with the high-quality housing and facilities that they deserve. I am certain that The Burgesses is a wonderful place to live.”

Les Clarke said: “I was very pleased to be able to show Sir Gavin our amazing housing for older people in Kinver. The Burgesses is a model for the kind of apartment living that appeals to people at every stage of life and has become an asset in this popular South Staffordshire village.”
