Much-needed grants help local foodbanks make sure no one goes hungry this Christmas

We have been spreading some festive cheer across Staffordshire and Shropshire by delivering much-needed grants to food banks this Christmas.

Many families have faced financial difficulty in recent years due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. To help with this, we have awarded timely donations to food banks helping people in need across Staffordshire and Shropshire from the Homes Plus My Community Fund.

These were awarded to House of Bread and Rising Brook Food Bank, in Stafford, Kingsway Food Bank, in Wombourne, Cannock and District Food Bank, in South Staffordshire, and Shrewsbury Food Bank at Barnabus Community Church.

The donations will help the food banks stock up on essentials that people need, but amid a cost-of-living crisis, may not be able to afford.

Our Employment and Money Advice team also got into the festive spirit by participating in the Christmas Tree Festival run by St Mary’s Church, in Stafford. They adorned the tree with Homes Plus Christmas decorations and worked hard to make our tree as pretty as a picture!

The festival is an annual event and encourages local community groups and organisations to sponsor a tree to decorate. More than 100 decorated trees are then displayed in the stunning Church setting for a week with plenty of opportunities for the community to pop in and enjoy the trees and a number of musical performances by different schools. The proceeds received then go to nominated good causes.

Local charities and voluntary groups can apply for funding from the Homes Plus My Community Fund online: https://www.homesplus.co.uk/the-my-community-fund/
