Our response to the recent CQC inspection at The Sandford Nursing Home
A recent inspection of the Sandford Care home by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) identified that there were a number of areas where we were not quite meeting the required standards and therefore that some improvements are required. Because improvements are required in two of the key lines of enquiry, the CQC has rated the home overall as requiring improvement. Whilst this is indeed disappointing, we accept their conclusion and value their suggestions as to where things can be improved and have introduced an improvement plan.
I am pleased to say that the inspectors felt residents were well cared for and that the care team are indeed very caring and also that our service is both responsive and effective. We have made a number of changes to the management team of the home and we are confident that this will enable us to address the shortcoming identified by CQC very quickly.
As part of the improvement plan, we are also introducing a digital care management system that will enable us to manage the care more effectively. This will provide us all with greater assurance that the needs of our residents are being properly identified and that appropriate care to meet those needs is being planned and delivered. It will take some time for staff to become fully familiar and proficient in the use of this system but it is already having an impact. We have also introduced an electronic system for the administration of medicines, which is a huge improvement to the process we had in place previously.
We hope that residents and staff will very soon feel the benefits of the improvements we are making and we remain committed to providing the very best care that we can.
